A Word from Your ANA President

Dear Astor Neighbors,

Things are beginning to shape up to be another exciting summer in Astor. Board members and volunteers are piecing events together and much more will be coming out for your help and input. For the second year, we will be holding the Summer Beer Garden, and this year the event will be on Saturday, June 23rd. The cost is $15/ticket, but please watch the Facebook page and the new and improved Astor website for the rest of the details. We will probably post on doors with a flyer as well.

The Green Bay City Band is playing once again on Wednesday evenings from June 13th – August 22nd, and we intend to sell popcorn and other snacks for this weekly event. Please, please, please, we need volunteers to work the concession stand. Please call me if you have done this in the past, or would like to have a couple hours of meeting neighbors on any given Wednesday evening. WE NEED YOU!

“If Homes Could Talk” was a huge success last year, and the format is being simplified and better focused for this fall. Please look for my wife Deby’s brief about this event. We would also like to re-focus on the Fox River Clean Up this year. If you have children and students who would like to give back to the community, please contact me or any board member so that we can begin a list of volunteers.

Finally, we need volunteers on all levels: folks that wish to help for one event, for one evening, one afternoon, etc.... we cannot do it without concerned, active neighbors. Last year, our Association was granted the Neighborhood of the Year Award. We are committed to a healthy, vibrant neighborhood and that cannot happen without your help. Please contact any one of us if you are that neighbor.

Please have a safe and fun summer, Hoping to see you,

Ron Dehn

Greetings Astor neighbors, as once again it is fall in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Looking back to the President’s Letter that I wrote a year ago, we achieved many of our goals and we added some new events to our stated mission. From our spring Easter Egg Hunt, to Popcorn in the Park, Movie Night and the back to school potluck, our board members Jennifer, Katie, and Pastor Paul continue to sacrifice so much of their time and efforts to bring neighbors together with events that are fun and engaging and remind us of how special our neighborhood really is. We are surrounded by history and beauty which I believe all of you embrace, and none of us can afford to take for granted. Please be sure to thank them when you see them in public. Please also thank Debbie Dhein for the work she does arranging and gathering items for these events, and Eric Vandeveld for all his efforts with our Astor website and Facebook page, which through his efforts are easily accessed and informative. We have the best neighborhood association website in the city. Our newest board member, Kathleen Johnson, is currently working on a new welcoming packet for new Astor neighbors. This year, at the request of some neighbors, we also added a fundraiser that we dubbed the Beer Garden event which we felt was a success for a first time attempt. A huge “Thank You” to Brent and Joanne Weycker for donating the delicious Titletown Beer that everyone enjoyed, and “Thank You” so much to Bill and Jessica Hoban for providing their yard for the night. Yet another “Thank You” to Devin Summers for his help with the wonderful food spread that was elegant and delicious! We learned a lot about how to run such an event this year and promise to make this an annual summer event spectacular!

By the time this prints, Astor Neighborhood Association, along with the Brown County Historical Society will have carried out the first “If Homes Could Talk”. Thank you to everyone who donated their homes and shared in presenting some of Astor’s history with others. My wife and board member Deby Dehn along with Chris Dunbar put tremendous efforts into this event, which we hope will evolve into an annual event also.

Finally, we need the help of volunteers and committee members to assist with all the fun things we are attempting to do in this neighborhood! You would not need to attend meetings nor join the board to help with these types of projects and events, please, just volunteer and help carry them out. This is a great way for students to build resumes and learn community service skills; it’s also an avenue for neighbors to meet each other.

We are also looking for volunteer homes for the annual “Wine Tasting” for this upcoming winter and we want 90-100 neighbors to attend. Please contact any one of the board members to express your interest to host! Until winter...

Best Regards,

Summer Beer Garden Event

The Astor Neighborhood Association is planning to hold an outdoor summer beer garden event on Saturday August 5th from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at the home of a local resident in the historical district which will be revealed later. Proceeds are to benefit the ANA, and will be used for projects needed within the neighborhood.

Tickets can be obtained by contacting Jennifer Lenz either by phone(920-609-7099), or by email (Jennifermlenz@gmail.com).

Beer, snacks, water and soft drinks will be provided for the event. Please express your interest as time is short to figure a count for this event. We hope this will be the first of many such summer adult events. Thank you for your interest, and please share this with your neighbors.
